Do you know the feeling when a sad movie comes out and all your friends go to see it and they all tell you about how they balled their eyes out, but then you go see it and there isn't a tear shed. That's kind of how I feel about this book; everyone said that it was just as good as Six of Crows and that I'd love it. It wasn't a bad book but even from the beginning I just felt myself not caring for it as much.
It had everything that is in a recipe for an awesome, action-packed, YA novel but something about it just didn't resonate with me. Another thing I kind of didn't care about was Matthias' death. That might make me sound awful but literally, his only quality was having a huge crush on Nina.
HOWEVER...what really made me upset was that KAZ AND INEJ WENT NOWHERE. I understand that they both have severe PTSD and other mental health issues, but I would literally sell my soul to see them be together in the Grishaverse. When they rescue Inej and Kaz tells her that he would've come to save her and if he couldn't walk he would CRAWL TO HER. I LOVE THEM IM SORRY.
Anyways that's really it. It wasn't a bad book but I just think that I was so head over heels in love with Six of Crows and in my mind it's unmatched.
